How do I become TEFL Certified?

STEP 1

Choose A Program

One of the first questions you should consider is ‘how much time do I have?’ In general TEFL courses start all the way from 20 hours and can go up and even above 300 hours.

Short courses hold almost no weight to schools that offer better teaching salaries because the majority of online and abroad schools rarely accept certificates with below 120 hours. Some online TEFL courses are theoretical and be can be completed at your own pace.

Longer courses may appear to be intense at first but when applying online/abroad they do hold a huge amount of weight for those that have no teaching experience.

STEP 3

Pace Yourself

You’re in luck! Because it is a self-guided course you get to control not only how much you learn but also how fast you learn. Make a schedule and stick to it. Our Global TEFL Recruiters team will be more than happy to help you make a note of all deadlines and prioritize your learning tasks.

STEP 4

Gain your Certificate

If you follow steps 2 and 3 you will become a time management ninja! You’re halfway there once you’ve practised time consistency.

STEP 5

Find your TEFL job online/abroad

Choose either a recruitment agency or an online company that you feel confident with. At GTR we offer to do the hard work for you.

If you are a fluent English speaker and you’re already TEFL certified you’re good to go! You don’t need to have prior experience or a teaching degree to teach online or abroad. An accredited TEFL certification will provide you with the training and qualification you need to teach either online or abroad.
